An unusual tour: the Ile de Ré by tuk-tuk

You’ve just booked your fully-equipped luxury accommodation or comfortable pitch at La Tour des Prises campsite, on the south coast of the Ile de Ré. You already know that you’ll need to hire a bike to pedal light-heartedly through the woods or salt marshes.

You’re planning to take surfing or kitesurfing lessons at La Couarde-sur-Mer, stroll along the authentic Conche des Baleines beach, explore the superb village of Ars-en-Ré (one of the most beautiful in France) and enjoy a seafood platter in the picturesque port of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Vauban fortifications.

You think you’ve thought of everything, don’t you? How about a tuk-tuk ride?

An original family outing

Inspired by the famous Thai cabs, tuk-tuks are finding their place in the sun on Ré la Blanche. Four of the island’s ten communes (see contact details), including Saint-Martin, offer outings in electric tuk-tuk with driver, as well as private rentals.

This silent, eco-friendly means of transport, which can accommodate up to 6 people, is ideal for exploring trails, getting lost in the woods or in the marshes. If you choose the chauffeur-driven option, your outing will become a storytelling tour, during which you’ll hear a number of anecdotes about the island of Ré and its inhabitants.
