The Prises beach in La Couarde sur Mer, 600 m from the campsite

With over 100 km of coastline, the Ile de Ré offers a wild, authentic and contrasting coastline. There are two distinct coastal profiles: the south coast, where La Couarde-sur-Mer is located, characterized by its fine sandy beaches, and the north coast, where there are more small beaches, coves and picturesque harbors .

The beaches of La Couarde, just a stone’s throw from the seaside campsite, are very popular with families, as they are wide and sheltered from the wind. Bordered by dunes and forests, they are ideal for water sports.

Plage des Prises is the largest beach in La Couarde-sur-Mer. Access is via a small wood (Bois Henri IV) and dunes, on foot or by bike along a cycle path.

It is equipped with sanitary facilities, an access ramp for people with reduced mobility and a parking lot. Swimming is not supervised on the Prises beach, but its favorable orientation and low swell make it safe for children. Climatic conditions are particularly favorable. For this reason, it is very popular with sports enthusiasts, sailors and windsurfers.

Seaside water sports

Not far from the campsite, you can enjoy activities such as jet-skiing with or without a license (Jet Révasion), sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddle and windsurfing. The latter sport is particularly popular in La Couarde.

This popularity is due to Antoine Albeau, the gifted local, 25-time world windsurfing champion and holder of several windsurfing speed records. The former windsurfing champion also owns his own sailing school, “Les Dauphins”, on the Peu Ragot beach.
It offers sailing and windsurfing courses, as well as equipment hire, so that islanders and holidaymakers alike can experience the pleasures of water sports suitable for beginners and children, such as stand-up, kitesurfing, bodyboarding, ski-bouée and towed buoys.

A path along the coast allows you to reach other beaches in the commune, such as Peu Ragot, La Pergola (one of the best surfing spots on the Ile de Ré), Peu des Hommes, Les Anneries and the Follies beach, at the end of which you’ll find an area where naturism is tolerated.

Top beaches and water sports activities on the Ile de Ré

Do you like a variety of pleasures for the whole family? For your family vacation on the Atlantic coast, the Ile de Ré is big enough to escape and marvel from village to village and beach to beach, and small enough (85 km²) to be covered from coast to coast in just a few days by car or bike.
On the seaside, Ré la Blanche can be visited in any season, although summer is the best time for water sports.
To help you plan your seaside programme during your stay at camping La Tour des Prises, we have selected the island’s most spectacular beaches, some of which are among the most beautiful in Europe:

  • Conche des Baleines: This immense wild beach is located in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, in the north of the island. Here you can surf, kitesurf and windsurf, and try your hand at fishing [/ile-de-re/activites/peche-ile-de-re /] without losing sight of the famous Baleines lighthouse.
  • Rivedoux-Plage: The first village to come into view after crossing the bridge over the Ile de Ré, Rivedoux-Plage has two sandy beaches, the north beach and the south beach. Rivedoux especially attracts kitesurfers and windsurfers. Kayak, pirogue, jet-ski and stand-up paddle tours are also available (Ré Glisse).
  • Plage des Gollandières, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré: Like the beaches at La Couarde and Rivedoux, the beaches at Bois-Plage are well sheltered from the wind. The Gollandières beach is a kilometer-long stretch of fine sand where all the conditions are right for stand-up paddling with the whole family. Looking for total well-being? • Plage de Trousse Chemise, Les Portes-en-Ré: Of the 4.5 km of fine sand in the commune of Les Portes-en-Ré, the most famous stretch is on Trousse Chemise beach. Indeed, it’s hard to resist this wild corner of the north of the island, which bewitched a certain Charles Aznavour. The Club Nautique des Portes-en-Ré offers kayak, windsurf, stand-up paddle, kitesurf and windsurfing lessons and rentals.
  • Plage des Grenettes, Sainte-Marie-de-Ré: Undoubtedly one of the best surf spots on the island, along with Grignon in Ars-en-Ré, Diamond Head in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, Le Petit Bec in Les Portes-en-Ré, Gouillaud in Les Bois-Plage-en-Ré and La Pergola in La Couarde.
