With more than 100 km of coastline, the Île de Ré boasts a wild, unspoiled, and varied shoreline. There are two distinct coastal profiles: the southern coast, home to La Couarde-sur-Mer, characterized by its beautiful fine-sand beaches; and the northern coast, where you’ll find more small beaches, coves, and picturesque ports .

The beaches of La Couarde are very popular with families because they are spacious and sheltered from the wind. Bordered by dunes and forests, they are ideal for water sports.

Les Prises Beach is the largest beach in La Couarde-sur-Mer. You can reach it by walking or biking along a bike path through a small wooded area (Bois Henri IV) and across the dunes.

It is equipped with restrooms, an access ramp for people with limited mobility, and a parking lot. Swimming is unsupervised at Les Prises Beach, but its favorable orientation and gentle swells allow children to swim there safely. The weather conditions there are particularly favorable. For this reason, it is very popular with athletes, sailors, and windsurfers.

Water Activities by the Sea

Not far from the campsite, you can enjoy activities such as jet skiing (with or without a license) (Jet Révasion), sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing. Windsurfing, in particular, is very popular in La Couarde, not far from our perfect campsite—which is perfect for windsurfing.

This popularity is thanks to Antoine Albeau, the gifted local who has been crowned world windsurfing champion 25 times and holds several speed records in the sport. The former windsurfing champion also runs his own sailing school on Peu Ragot Beach, called “Les Dauphins.”
It offers sailing and windsurfing lessons, as well as equipment rentals, to allow island residents and vacationers to enjoy water sports suitable for beginners and children, such as stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, bodyboarding, tube skiing, and tubing.

A trail along the coast leads to the town’s other beaches, such as Peu Ragot, La Pergola (one of the best surfing spots on Île de Ré), Peu des Hommes, Les Anneries, and Follies Beach, at the far end of which you’ll find an area where naturism is tolerated.

The Best Beaches on Île de Ré and Their Top Water Activities

Do you like to mix things up for the whole family? For your family vacation on the Atlantic coast, Île de Ré is large enough to let you get away from it all and marvel at the sights as you wander from village to village and beach to beach, yet small enough (85 km²) to explore from end to end in just a few days by car or bike.
On the coast, Ré la Blanche is worth visiting any time of year, although summer is the best time for water sports.
To help you plan your beach activities during your stay at La Tour des Prises Campsite, we’ve selected the island’s most spectacular beaches for you, some of which are among the most beautiful beaches in Europe:

Conche des Baleines: This vast, unspoiled beach is located in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, in the northern part of the island. Here, you can go surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing, and try your hand at beachcombing while keeping the famous Baleines Lighthouse in sight.
Rivedoux-Plage: The first village you see after crossing the Île de Ré bridge, Rivedoux-Plage has two fine-sand beaches: the north beach and the south beach. Rivedoux is especially popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers. Kayaking, canoeing, jet-skiing, and stand-up paddleboarding are also available here (Ré Glisse).
Gollandières Beach, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré: Like the beaches at La Couarde and Rivedoux, the beaches at Bois-Plage are well sheltered from the wind. Gollandières Beach is a stretch of fine sand several kilometers long where everything you need for a family stand-up paddleboarding outing is right here. Looking for total relaxation? Trousse Chemise Beach, Les Portes-en-Ré: Among the 4.5 km of fine sand in the town of Les Portes-en-Ré, the most famous stretch is the one at Trousse Chemise Beach. It’s hard to resist this unspoiled corner of the island’s north, which once captivated none other than Charles Aznavour. The Portes-en-Ré Water Sports Club offers lessons and rentals for kayaking, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, and windsurfing.
Grenettes Beach, Sainte-Marie-de-Ré: Undoubtedly one of the island’s best surf spots, along with Grignon in Ars-en-Ré, Diamond Head in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines, Le Petit Bec in Les Portes-en-Ré, Gouillaud in Les Bois-Plage-en-Ré, and La Pergola in La Couarde.
