Summer Ile de Ré

In summer, the island of Ré comes alive with the arrival of tourists looking to reconnect with nature and discover the Charente archipelago. You haven’t planned your vacation yet? Don’t panic: this corner of paradise in Charente-Maritime offers a wide range of activities for couples, families and friends.

Sunbathing on sandy beaches

Ré la Blanche is dotted with superb beaches and small coves. Most of the large sandy beaches are to be found on the south coast, particularly at La Couarde-sur-Mer and Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré. Do you prefer wild coastlines and authentic beaches? Focus on the north of the island, in particular La Conche des Baleines (Saint-Clément-des-Baleines) and the Trousse Chemise coves (Les Portes-en-Ré).

Water sports

The Charente coastline is ideal for water sports. Try your hand at stand-up paddling (SUP) on the Plage des Grenettes (Sainte-Marie-de-Ré) or the Pointe du Lizay (Portes-en-Ré). Test your kitesurfing or windsurfing skills on the south coast (Rivedoux, Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, La Couarde-sur-Mer), where the beaches are more sheltered from the wind than on the north coast. The island of Ré also boasts several renowned surf spots, including Le Grignon (Ars-en-Ré).

Go hiking and biking

In summer, the thermometer rarely exceeds 25°C on the Ile de Ré. This pleasantly mild climate is ideal for walks and bike rides along the coast, near villages, through woods and salt marshes.

Enjoy a drink and seafood on the terrace

After your surfing lesson or hike, sit on the terrace facing the port or the sea for a drink before enjoying delicious oysters or other local produce. Once night has fallen, you’ll discover the nightlife on the beaches and in the villages.

Want to extend your summer evening? Go dancing with your friends in one of the best discotheques on the Ile de Ré.
