Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and benefiting from the gentle Gulf Stream, the islands of the Charente archipelago are ideal for water sports. The island of Ré is home to some magnificent surf spots, including the Plage des Grenettes in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré and the Pointe du Lizay in Les Portes-en-Ré. Would you like to try an original water sport during your seaside vacation on the Ile de Ré? Go for stand-up paddle!
A water sports activity for adults and children alike
Halfway between a pirogue and surfing, stand-up paddling (SUP) involves standing on a board longer than a surfboard, and paddling forward. Easier to master than surfing, this discipline offers a gentle introduction to water sports and the thrill of gliding. For this reason, it is often proposed to families and beginners. Stand-up paddling improves balance on the water and helps strengthen muscles (shoulders, abdominals, back, buttocks, thighs).
There are two major stand-up paddle schools on the Ile de Ré, in Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré and La Couarde-sur-Mer.
