Spend a day on the Ile de Ré

Are you staying in La Rochelle or another town in the Charente-Maritime region and already have a full schedule? Would you like to take advantage of your last day to discover the Charente archipelago? This itinerary allows you toexplore the island of Ré in just one day.

Start your day on the Ile de Ré: Beach, bike and marshes on the south coast

Cross the Ile de Ré bridge and park at Rivedoux-Plage, the first of the ten communes of Ré la Blanche. Enjoy a swim on one of the two large sandy beaches and take your first kitesurfing lessons, an exciting water activity that will quench your adrenaline thirst. Have you had your fill of thrills? It’s time to rent a bike for a ride with friends or family on one of the many cycle paths. From Rivedoux, take the fortifications trail (13 km). If you prefer to ride between marshes, head for La Couarde-sur-Mer. A superb walk awaits you around the Fier d’Ars, called Chemin des Marais (18 km).

Culture and ports on the north coast to round off the day

If you’ve taken the time to sit on a terrace and enjoy a delicious seafood platter overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, you’re ready to head off in the direction of one of France’s most beautiful villages: Ars-en-Ré. While you’re there, don’t forget to take a stroll along the harbor, or visit the church of Saint-Étienne. This religious building has a striking black-and-white bell tower that acts as a sea wall for sailors.
If you’re a surfing enthusiast, the Grignon spot is ideal for the sport. Depending on how much time you have, you can take a stroll along the superb beach of Conche des Baleines (Saint-Clément-des-Baleines). To round off your unforgettable day on the Ile de Ré, explore the Vauban fortifications of Saint-Martin-de-Ré and watch the sun set over the harbor.
