What can families do during a weekend on Île de Ré?
For a short trip, it’s best to focus on activities close to the campsite rather than long drives. Here are our tried-and-true ideas for an action-packed trip without feeling like you’re racing against the clock.
The beach, just a stone’s throw from the campsite
Les Prises Beach is just 600 meters from the campsite (a 5- to 10-minute walk or a 4-minute bike ride). That means you can go from building sandcastles to swimming to enjoying ice cream on the boardwalk without wasting time driving.
A Family Bike Ride
The island’s main bike path runs past the campsite’s reception desk, where you can also rent bikes on site. The flat, safe paths are perfect for a family outing to Loix or Ars-en-Ré.
An Encounter with Donkeys in Pants
In Saint-Martin-de-Ré (about 20 minutes away), the Parc de la Barbette is home to the famous “donkeys in pants,” a family attraction that’s very popular with children, where you can take a ride on a donkey.
What if the weather turns bad?
The campsite has plenty to offer: an indoor heated pool, an indoor game room, and an outdoor playground are all available to keep the fun going. There’s also a mini-golf course and a pony club nearby if you’d like to try something different.
