A rainy day is the perfect time to visit a museum. The island has several, all within a few kilometers of each other:
- The Ernest Cognacq Museum (Saint-Martin-de-Ré): Housed in the Hôtel de Clerjotte, it traces the island’s history through its Vauban fortifications, vineyards, salt production, and maritime life. Closed on Tuesdays.
- The Musée du Platin (La Flotte): This eco-museum features four levels of exhibits, ranging from the island’s origins to traditional Charente-style housing, including maritime traditions and the transition from ferry to bridge. Workshops and treasure hunts for children.
